Clinical evaluation of the single oral Fluconazole therapy in Vaginal Candidiasis

Abstract
A clinical evaluation about the effectiveness of the single oral Fluconazole therapy in vaginal candidiasis was performed in 30 patients with clinical¢¥ symptoms of vaginal candidiasis and positive laboratory findings .for candida, who visited out patient clinic, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Fatima Hospital from Aug. 1, 1990 to Dec. 31, 1990.
The results were as follows
1. The mean age of the patients were 32.3 years (range 20 to 4s years), mean bony weight 48.3kg (range 43 to 68kg), mean height 160.3cm (range 148 to 168cm).
2. The most frequently found organism was candida albicans (93.3%)
3. The clinical symptoms such as pruritus, burning senastion and vaginal discharge and signs such as vulva and vaginal erythema. excoriation, vaginal discharge and cervical erosion were improved 100% at short term assessment and 88.1% of patient at long term assessment.
4. The cure rate defined as negative culture and improved clinical symptoms and signs after treatment were 90.0% at short term assessment and 85.2% at long term assessment. 5. Treatment related side effects were few and minor.
It is concluded that treatment of vaginal candidiasis with Fluconazole as a single oral dose, was effective and safe.
